Al-Ma`ārij The Ascending Stairways

﷽
سَأَلَ سَائِلٌ بِعَذَابٍ وَاقِعٍ 1 
Translation
Asked a questioner for a punishment bound to happen
Transliteration
Sa'ala Sā'ilun Bi`adhābin Wāqi`in
لِلْكَافِرِينَ لَيْسَ لَهُ دَافِعٌ 2 
Translation
To the disbelievers not of it any preventer
Transliteration
Lilkāfiryna Laysa Lahu Dāfi`un
مِنَ اللَّهِ ذِي الْمَعَارِجِ 3 
Translation
From Allah Owner (of) the ways of ascent
Transliteration
Mina Allāhi Dhī Al-Ma`āriji
تَعْرُجُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ وَالرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِي يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ 4 
Translation
Ascend the Angels and the Spirit to Him in a Day [is] its measure (is) fifty thousand year(s)
Transliteration
TTa`ruju Al-Malā'ikatu Wa Ar-Rūĥu 'Ilayhi Fī Yawmin Kāna Miqdāruhu Khamsīna 'Alfa Sanahin
فَاصْبِرْ صَبْرًا جَمِيلًا 5 
Translation
So be patient a patience good
Transliteration
Fāşbir Şabrāan Jamīlāan
إِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَهُ بَعِيدًا 6 
Translation
Indeed they see it (as) far off
Transliteration
'Innahum Yarawnahu Ba`īdāan
وَنَرَاهُ قَرِيبًا 7 
Translation
But We see it near
Transliteration
Wa Narāhu Qarībāan
يَوْمَ تَكُونُ السَّمَاءُ كَالْمُهْلِ 8 
Translation
(The) Day - will be the sky like molten copper
Transliteration
Yawma Takūnu As-Samā'u Kālmuhli
وَتَكُونُ الْجِبَالُ كَالْعِهْنِ 9 
Translation
And will be the mountains like wool
Transliteration
Wa Takūnu Al-Jibālu Kāl`ihni
وَلَا يَسْأَلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيمًا 10 
Translation
And not will ask a friend (of) a friend
Transliteration
Wa Lā Yas'alu Ĥamīmun Ĥamīmāan
يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْ ۚ يَوَدُّ الْمُجْرِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدِي مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمِئِذٍ بِبَنِيهِ 11 
Translation
They will be made to see each other Would wish the criminal if he (could be) ransomed from (the) punishment (of) that Day by his children
Transliteration
YYubaşşarūnahum Yawaddu Al-Mujrimu Law Yaftadī Min `Adhābi Yawmi'idhin Bibanīhi
وَصَاحِبَتِهِ وَأَخِيهِ 12 
Translation
And his spouse and his brother
Transliteration
Wa Şāĥibatihi Wa 'Akhīhi
وَفَصِيلَتِهِ الَّتِي تُؤْوِيهِ 13 
Translation
And his nearest kindred who sheltered him
Transliteration
Wa Faşīlatihi Allatī Tu'uwyhi
وَمَنْ فِي الْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا ثُمَّ يُنْجِيهِ 14 
Translation
And whoever (is) on the earth all then it (could) save him
Transliteration
Wa Man Fī Al-'Arđi Jamī`āan Thumma Yunjīhi
كَلَّا ۖ إِنَّهَا لَظَىٰ 15 
Translation
By no means! Indeed it (is) surely a Flame of Hell
Transliteration
Kallā 'Innahā Lažá
نَزَّاعَةً لِلشَّوَىٰ 16 
Translation
A remover of the skin of the head
Transliteration
NNazzā`atan Lilshshawá
تَدْعُو مَنْ أَدْبَرَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ 17 
Translation
Inviting (him) who turned his back and went away
Transliteration
Tad`ū Man 'Adbara Wa Tawallá
وَجَمَعَ فَأَوْعَىٰ 18 
Translation
And collected and hoarded
Transliteration
Wa Jama`a Fa'aw`á
۞ إِنَّ الْإِنْسَانَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعًا 19 
Translation
Indeed the man was created anxious -
Transliteration
'Inna Al-'Insāna Khuliqa Halū`āan
إِذَا مَسَّهُ الشَّرُّ جَزُوعًا 20 
Translation
When touches him the evil distressed
Transliteration
'Idhā Massahu Ash-Sharru Jazū`āan
وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ الْخَيْرُ مَنُوعًا 21 
Translation
And when touches him the good withholding
Transliteration
Wa 'Idhā Massahu Al-Khayru Manū`āan
إِلَّا الْمُصَلِّينَ 22 
Translation
Except those who pray -
Transliteration
'Illā Al-Muşallīna
الَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ دَائِمُونَ 23 
Translation
Those who [they] at their prayer (are) constant
Transliteration
Al-Ladhīna Hum `Alá Şalātihim Dā'imūna
وَالَّذِينَ فِي أَمْوَالِهِمْ حَقٌّ مَعْلُومٌ 24 
Translation
And those who in their wealth (is) a right known
Transliteration
Wa Al-Ladhīna Fī 'Amwālihim Ĥaqqun Ma`lūmun
لِلسَّائِلِ وَالْمَحْرُومِ 25 
Translation
For the one who asks and the deprived
Transliteration
LLilssā'ili Wa Al-Maĥrūmi
وَالَّذِينَ يُصَدِّقُونَ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ 26 
Translation
And those who accept (the) truth (of the) Day (of) the Judgment
Transliteration
Wa Al-Ladhīna Yuşaddiqūna Biyawmi Ad-Dīni
وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ مِنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِمْ مُشْفِقُونَ 27 
Translation
And those who [they] of (the) punishment (of) their Lord (are) fearful -
Transliteration
Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum Min `Adhābi Rabbihim Mushfiqūna
إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمْ غَيْرُ مَأْمُونٍ 28 
Translation
Indeed (the) punishment (of) your Lord (is) not to be felt secure (of) -
Transliteration
'Inna `Adhāba Rabbihim Ghayru Ma'mūnin
وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَافِظُونَ 29 
Translation
And those who [they] their modesty (are) guardians
Transliteration
Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum Lifurūjihim Ĥāfižūna
إِلَّا عَلَىٰ أَزْوَاجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ 30 
Translation
Except from their spouses or what they possess rightfully then indeed, they (are) not blameworthy
Transliteration
'Illā `Alá 'Azwājihim 'Aw Mā Malakat 'Aymānuhum Fa'innahum Ghayru Malūmīna
فَمَنِ ابْتَغَىٰ وَرَاءَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْعَادُونَ 31 
Translation
But whoever seeks beyond that then those [they] (are) the transgressors -
Transliteration
FFamani Abtaghá Warā'a Dhālika Fa'ūlā'ika Humu Al-`Ādūna
وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأَمَانَاتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَاعُونَ 32 
Translation
And those who [they] of their trusts and their promise (are) observers
Transliteration
Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum Li'mānātihim Wa `Ahdihim Rā`ūna
وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ بِشَهَادَاتِهِمْ قَائِمُونَ 33 
Translation
And those who [they] in their testimonies stand firm
Transliteration
Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum Bishahādātihim Qā'imūna
وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ 34 
Translation
And those who [they] on their prayer keep a guard -
Transliteration
Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum `Alá Şalātihim Yuĥāfižūna
أُولَٰئِكَ فِي جَنَّاتٍ مُكْرَمُونَ 35 
Translation
Those (will be) in Gardens honored
Transliteration
''Ūlā'ika Fī Jannātin Mukramūna
فَمَالِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا قِبَلَكَ مُهْطِعِينَ 36 
Translation
So what is with those who disbelieve before you (they) hasten
Transliteration
Famāli Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Qibalaka Muhţi`īna
عَنِ الْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ الشِّمَالِ عِزِينَ 37 
Translation
On the right and on the left (in) separate groups
Transliteration
`Ani Al-Yamīni Wa `Ani Ash-Shimāli `Izīna
أَيَطْمَعُ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ مِنْهُمْ أَنْ يُدْخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِيمٍ 38 
Translation
Does long every person among them that he enters a Garden (of) Delight
Transliteration
'Ayaţma`u Kullu Amri'in Minhum 'An Yudkhala Jannata Na`īmin
كَلَّا ۖ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَاهُمْ مِمَّا يَعْلَمُونَ 39 
Translation
By no means! Indeed We [We] have created them from what they know
Transliteration
Kallā 'Innā Khalaqnāhum Mimmā Ya`lamūna
فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِرَبِّ الْمَشَارِقِ وَالْمَغَارِبِ إِنَّا لَقَادِرُونَ 40 
Translation
But nay! I swear by (the) Lord (of) the rising and the settings that We (are) surely Able
Transliteration
Falā 'Uqsimu Birabbi Al-Mashāriqi Wa Al-Maghāribi 'Innā Laqādirūna
عَلَىٰ أَنْ نُبَدِّلَ خَيْرًا مِنْهُمْ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ 41 
Translation
To that We replace (with) better than them; and not We (are) to be outrun
Transliteration
`Alá 'An Nubaddila Khayrāan Minhum Wa Mā Naĥnu Bimasbūqīna
فَذَرْهُمْ يَخُوضُوا وَيَلْعَبُوا حَتَّىٰ يُلَاقُوا يَوْمَهُمُ الَّذِي يُوعَدُونَ 42 
Translation
So leave them (to) converse vainly and amuse themselves until they meet their Day which they are promised
Transliteration
Fadharhum Yakhūđū Wa Yal`abū Ĥattá Yulāqū Yawmahumu Al-Ladhī Yū`adūna
يَوْمَ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ الْأَجْدَاثِ سِرَاعًا كَأَنَّهُمْ إِلَىٰ نُصُبٍ يُوفِضُونَ 43 
Translation
(The) Day they will come out from the graves rapidly as if they (were) to a goal hastening
Transliteration
Yawma Yakhrujūna Mina Al-'Ajdāthi Sirā`āan Ka'annahum 'Ilá Nuşubin Yūfiđūna
خَاشِعَةً أَبْصَارُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ الْيَوْمُ الَّذِي كَانُوا يُوعَدُونَ 44 
Translation
Humbled their eyes will cover them humiliation That (is) the Day which they were promised
Transliteration
KKhāshi`atan 'Abşāruhum Tarhaquhum Dhillatun Dhālika Al-Yawmu Al-Ladhī Kānū Yū`adūna
