Al-`Alaq The Clot

﷽
اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ 1 
Translation
Read in (the) name (of) your Lord the One Who created -
Transliteration
Aqra' Biāsmi Rabbika Al-Ladhī Khalaqa
خَلَقَ الْإِنْسَانَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ 2 
Translation
He created man from a clinging substance
Transliteration
Khalaqa Al-'Insāna Min `Alaqin
اقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ الْأَكْرَمُ 3 
Translation
Read and your Lord (is) the Most Generous
Transliteration
Aqra' Wa Rabbuka Al-'Akramu
الَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِالْقَلَمِ 4 
Translation
The One Who taught by the pen
Transliteration
Al-Ladhī `Allama Bil-Qalami
عَلَّمَ الْإِنْسَانَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ 5 
Translation
Taught man what not he knew
Transliteration
`Allama Al-'Insāna Mā Lam Ya`lam
كَلَّا إِنَّ الْإِنْسَانَ لَيَطْغَىٰ 6 
Translation
Nay! Indeed man surely transgresses
Transliteration
Kallā 'Inna Al-'Insāna Layaţghá
أَنْ رَآهُ اسْتَغْنَىٰ 7 
Translation
Because he sees himself self-sufficient
Transliteration
'An Ra'āhu Astaghná
إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ الرُّجْعَىٰ 8 
Translation
Indeed to your Lord (is) the return
Transliteration
'Inna 'Ilá Rabbika Ar-Ruj`á
أَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي يَنْهَىٰ 9 
Translation
Have you seen the one who forbids
Transliteration
'Ara'ayta Al-Ladhī Yanhá
عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰ 10 
Translation
A slave when he prays
Transliteration
`Abdāan 'Idhā Şallá
أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَانَ عَلَى الْهُدَىٰ 11 
Translation
Have you seen if he is upon [the] guidance
Transliteration
'Ara'ayta 'In Kāna `Alá Al-Hudá
أَوْ أَمَرَ بِالتَّقْوَىٰ 12 
Translation
Or he enjoins [of the] righteousness
Transliteration
'Aw 'Amara Bit-Taqwá
أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ 13 
Translation
Have you seen if he denies and turns away
Transliteration
'Ara'ayta 'In Kadhdhaba Wa Tawallá
أَلَمْ يَعْلَمْ بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ يَرَىٰ 14 
Translation
Does not he know that Allah sees
Transliteration
'Alam Ya`lam Bi'anna Allāha Yará
كَلَّا لَئِنْ لَمْ يَنْتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًا بِالنَّاصِيَةِ 15 
Translation
Nay! If not he desists surely We will drag him by the forelock
Transliteration
Kallā La'in Lam Yantahi Lanasfa`ā Bin-Nāşiyahi
نَاصِيَةٍ كَاذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ 16 
Translation
A forelock lying sinful
Transliteration
NNāşiyatin Kādhibatin Khāţi'ahin
فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُ 17 
Translation
Then let him call his associates
Transliteration
Falyad`u Nādiyah
سَنَدْعُ الزَّبَانِيَةَ 18 
Translation
We will call the Angels of Hell
Transliteration
SSanad`u Az-Zabāniyaha
كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَاسْجُدْ وَاقْتَرِبْ ۩ 19 
Translation
Nay! (Do) not obey him But prostrate and draw near (to Allah)
